§ 119328 Body Piercing Facility Fees

Key Takeaways

  • •Local agencies can charge a one-time fee between $25 and $45 for certain facilities.
  • •The fee must only cover the actual costs of checking and enforcing rules—no extra money allowed.
  • •After 2015, counties can change the fee if they need more money to cover costs, but they must pass a local law first.
  • •The fee cannot be different just because of which part of the ear is being pierced.

Example

A tattoo shop opens in a town and needs to pay a fee to the local government.

The town can charge the shop a one-time fee between $25 and $45 to cover the cost of making sure the shop follows the rules. If the town needs more money after 2015, they can raise the fee, but they have to prove it’s only for covering costs.
