§ 117976 Medical Waste Transport Exemption

Key Takeaways

  • •Big places like hospitals or clinics can move small amounts (up to 35.2 pounds) of medical waste to a main spot if they follow certain rules.
  • •They can’t be in the business of just moving or treating medical waste—they have to do other healthcare stuff too.
  • •They must keep a log for 2 years with details like who moved the waste, how much, and when.
  • •They don’t need a special license for moving hazardous waste if they follow these rules.

Example

A clinic with a few small bins of used needles and bandages wants to take them to a bigger hospital for disposal.

The clinic can move the waste themselves if they write down who did it, how many bins, and the date. They don’t need a special waste-moving license as long as they follow the rules.
