§ 105140 Uc Geriatric Medicine Monitoring

This law tells the University of California leaders to keep an eye on doctor licensing rules and make sure medical schools teach enough about caring for older people.

Key Takeaways

  • •UC Regents must watch current doctor licensing requirements.
  • •Regents should check that medical school programs prepare graduates for geriatric licensing and education.
  • •Regents should ask UC health science schools to add more geriatric content to their courses.

Example

A student at a UC medical school takes extra classes on how to treat seniors because the school added more geriatric courses after the law.

The university looked at the licensing rules, saw a need for more geriatric training, and asked the medical school to put more focus on caring for older patients, so the student learns the right skills.

(b) It is the intent of the Legislature that the regents request the medical and other health science schools of the University of California to consider the need for additional emphasis on geriatrics in their curricula.
