Key Takeaways

  • •You have to fill out the required birth, death, fetal death, or marriage certificates.
  • •You must register those certificates with the local registrar.
  • •If you ignore or refuse to give them when asked, it’s a misdemeanor.

Example

A couple gets married, gets a marriage license, but they never turn it in to the town clerk as required.

Because they didn’t deliver the marriage license to the registrar, the law says they could be charged with a misdemeanor.
