§ 103065 Death Certificate Disposition Permit

This law says that when you show a proper death certificate, a local registrar can give you a permit to handle the body, and you must pay a $6 fee that is split between the county registrar, the state registrar, and the issuing registrar.

Key Takeaways

  • •You need a death certificate that follows county coroner rules to get a disposition permit.
  • •The permit costs $6.
  • •30% of the fee goes to the county registrar, 40% goes to the State Registrar, and the rest stays with the issuing registrar.
  • •People applying for this permit are not subject to Section 103675.

Example

A family gets a death certificate for their loved one and goes to the local registrar to get a permit to bury the body.

The registrar gives them the permit after they pay $6. $1.80 goes to the county registrar where the death happened, $2.40 goes to the State Registrar, and the remaining $1.80 stays with the registrar who issued the permit.

How to Calculate

County share = Fee × 0.30; State share = Fee × 0.40; Issuing registrar share = Fee – (County share + State share)

  1. Identify the total fee (the law says $6).
  2. Multiply the fee by 0.30 to find the amount that goes to the county registrar.
  3. Multiply the fee by 0.40 to find the amount that goes to the State Registrar.
  4. Subtract the county and state amounts from the total fee to get the amount the issuing registrar keeps.

Family pays the $6 fee for the permit.

Result: County share = $6 × 0.30 = $1.80; State share = $6 × 0.40 = $2.40; Issuing registrar share = $6 – ($1.80 + $2.40) = $1.80.
