§ 100702 Laboratory Proficiency Testing Requirements

This law says labs that do certain testing must follow ASCLD/LAB rules for proficiency tests, do an alcohol test each year, have each examiner pass a test yearly, and write down how they check and fix any bad test results.

Key Takeaways

  • •Labs must use ASCLD/LAB‑approved proficiency tests.
  • •Every lab must do an external alcohol proficiency test each year.
  • •Each examiner must pass at least one proficiency test every year.
  • •Labs need a written plan to review test results and fix any problems.

Example

A forensic lab that checks blood samples for alcohol levels must get a proficiency test from an approved provider, run the test every year, and keep a written plan for reviewing the results.

If the lab’s test shows a result that’s different from what the proficiency test says it should be, the lab must look at why and fix the problem, all according to the law.
