§ 6341 Bond Issuance Authorization

This law says bonds can only be issued if the board passes an ordinance that at least two‑thirds of its members approve, and the bond becomes effective when that ordinance is published.

Key Takeaways

  • •Bond issuance needs a board ordinance.
  • •At least two‑thirds of board members must vote in favor.
  • •The bond only takes effect once the ordinance is published.

Example

A city council wants to issue a $5 million bond to build a new park.

The council must have at least two‑thirds of its members vote for an ordinance that authorizes the bond, then publish that ordinance. Only after publication does the bond become valid.
