§ 6270 District Board Powers

This law says a district’s board can make rules, but those rules have to be printed in a local newspaper before they’re final, and any lease or franchise longer than ten years needs a special board ordinance.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board makes decisions by a majority vote.
  • •All new rules (ordinances) must appear in a local newspaper at least once before they’re final.
  • •Leases or franchises longer than ten years aren’t allowed unless the board passes a special ordinance.

Example

A city water district wants to give a private company a 15‑year lease to operate a water pump.

The board must vote on the lease, pass an ordinance for it, and publish that ordinance in a local newspaper before the lease can become official.
