§ 4002 Wharf Construction Application Requirements

This law says that anyone who wants to build a wharf or chute must first give public notice and then submit a written request that includes specific details about the project.

Key Takeaways

  • •You have to give public notice before asking for permission.
  • •The written request must include who you are and where you live (or the corporation’s papers).
  • •You must attach a map of the water and nearby land.
  • •A drawing of the wharf or chute and the land within 300 feet must be included.
  • •List the owners of any land you’ll use and how much of it you need.
  • •State how far the structure will extend into the water.
  • •Give an estimate of how much it will cost and when you’ll start.

Example

A family wants to build a small dock on a lake to launch their boat.

They must publish a notice about their plan, then file a written request that lists their name and address, shows a map of the lake and nearby land, includes a drawing of the dock, names the owners of any land they’ll use, says how far the dock will go into the water, gives the estimated cost, and says when they will start the work.
