§ 1130 Port Agent Duties

Pilots must pick one of their own to be a port agent who runs pilot business and tells the board about any rule‑breaks.

Key Takeaways

  • •A majority of all licensed pilots pick one pilot to be the port agent, and the board must approve the choice.
  • •The port agent runs the day‑to‑day business and official duties for all pilots.
  • •The agent must quickly tell the board’s executive director about any suspected rule break, accident, or misconduct.

Example

A group of 10 licensed pilots votes and chooses Pilot Jane as their port agent. Jane organizes their schedules and paperwork. One day she sees Pilot Tom ignoring a safety rule while docking a ship.

Because the law says the port agent must report any suspected violations, Jane immediately emails the board’s executive director about Tom’s mistake.
