§ 107 California Coastal Boundary Definition

This law says the official line of California’s coast and the names of its beaches, islands, and other spots are set by a 1933 government map, and it doesn't change who owns any land.

Key Takeaways

  • •The California coast line is the one shown on the 1933 Coast and Geodetic Survey map.
  • •Names of islands, rocks, bays, etc., follow the names on that survey’s charts.
  • •The law does not change who owns any part of the land or water.

Example

A family thinks the sand in front of their house is part of their property, but they wonder where the official coast line is.

The law says the coast line is the one drawn on the 1933 Coast and Geodetic Survey map, so the family can look at that map to see the official line, but the law doesn't give them any extra land rights.
