§ 9930 Legislative Contingent Funds

Key Takeaways

  • •The law creates special funds in the State Treasury for the Legislature's unexpected expenses.
  • •There are three funds: one for the Senate, one for the Assembly, and one for both together.
  • •Each fund is controlled by a specific committee (Senate Committee on Rules, Assembly Committee on Rules, or Joint Rules Committee).
  • •The money in these funds can only be spent following the rules set by this law.

Example

The Senate needs to pay for extra printing costs for a big report.

The money for this unexpected cost would come from the Senate Contingent Fund, and the Senate Committee on Rules would decide how to spend it.
