§ 8941 Committee Investigation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The committee can make its own rules for how it works.
  • •Before the committee can force someone to come talk or give documents, they must first agree on what they are investigating.
  • •At least two members from each part of the Legislature (like the Senate and Assembly) must vote to approve the investigation.

Example

Imagine a group of teachers at a school wants to investigate why some kids are always late to class.

Before they can call in parents or other teachers to ask questions, the group must first decide together what exactly they are trying to find out. Then, at least two teachers from each grade level must agree to start the investigation.
