§ 8502 Commission Funding Independence

Key Takeaways

  • •The commission gets money from the state to do its work.
  • •The commission is part of the state government but doesn't take orders from anyone else in the government.
  • •The only time the government can tell the commission what to do is when giving them money that the Legislature approved.

Example

Imagine the commission is like a school club that gets money from the school.

The club can decide how to spend the money on its own, but the school can only tell the club what to do when giving them the money that the school board approved.
