§ 71674 Obsolete Law Removal Review

Key Takeaways

  • •This law tells a group (California Law Revision Commission) to check if any old laws are no longer needed because of new laws or changes in how courts work.
  • •If they find old laws that are not useful anymore, they tell the Legislature (the people who make laws) to remove or update them.
  • •They have to write a report explaining what changes they think should be made.

Example

Imagine there’s an old rule that says you have to use a payphone to call 911, but now everyone has cell phones. This rule is useless.

The group would find this old rule, tell the Legislature it’s not needed anymore, and suggest removing it so the laws stay up-to-date.
