§ 71651 Trial Court Employee Discipline

Key Takeaways

  • •Workers in trial courts can only be fired or punished for a good reason, not just because the boss feels like it.
  • •Before getting fired, workers usually get warnings or smaller punishments first (like a write-up).
  • •The only time people can be laid off without it being their fault is if the court doesn’t have enough money or work.
  • •The rules for punishments must be fair and talked about with the workers first.

Example

A court clerk keeps showing up late to work.

The boss can’t just fire them right away. First, they might get a warning or a write-up. If they keep being late, they could get fired, but only if the court’s rules say that’s a fair reason.
