§ 68566 Certified Court Interpreter Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Only people with a special certificate can call themselves 'certified court interpreters'.
  • •The certificate must be from a group approved by the Judicial Council.
  • •If you were on an old list of recommended interpreters before 1996, you can still be called a certified court interpreter.
  • •No one else is allowed to say they are a certified court interpreter if they don’t meet these rules.

Example

Someone tries to work as a court interpreter but doesn’t have the right certificate.

If a person says they are a 'certified court interpreter' but doesn’t have the proper certificate or isn’t on the old approved list, they are breaking the law.
