§ 6701 Holiday Date Adjustments

Key Takeaways

  • •If certain holidays (like New Year's Day or Christmas) fall on a Sunday, the next Monday is a holiday instead.
  • •If Veterans Day (November 11) is on a Saturday, the Friday before is a holiday.
  • •For Cesar Chavez Day (March 31), if it's on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, the government can pick a nearby Friday or Monday to celebrate it instead.
  • •If any holiday is on a Saturday, counties can choose a different day for their workers to have off (except for some court workers).

Example

Christmas Day is on a Sunday this year.

Since Christmas is on a Sunday, the next day, Monday, will be the holiday instead. So, people will get Monday off work or school to celebrate.
