§ 66424 Land Division Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •Splitting land into smaller pieces to sell, rent, or borrow money against is called a 'subdivision'.
  • •Even if roads or train tracks separate the land, it can still be considered one big piece for subdivision rules.
  • •This rule also covers big apartment buildings (condos) or turning 5+ rental homes into a cooperative where people own shares.

Example

A farmer owns a big empty field. He draws lines on a map to split it into 10 smaller lots to sell to people who want to build houses.

This is a subdivision because the farmer is splitting his land to sell it in pieces.
