§ 65998 Local School Site Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Local agencies can still pick and save land for schools, even if other rules say something different.
  • •Local agencies can also make rules to lessen the bad effects of building or using land, except for needing new schools.
  • •This law makes sure that school needs don’t stop other important land rules.

Example

A city wants to build a new park but is worried about traffic and noise.

The city can make rules to handle the traffic and noise from the park, even if it doesn’t directly affect schools. But if they need land for a new school, they can still save that land for the school.
