§ 65061 Regional Planning District Boundaries

Key Takeaways

  • •The state creates special planning areas called 'regional planning districts' to help different places work together.
  • •These areas are decided after talking to the people who live there in a public meeting.
  • •No city or county can be split up when drawing the lines for these planning areas.

Example

Imagine two towns next to each other, Town A and Town B, that share a big forest. Both towns want to protect the forest but need to plan together.

The state would create one planning area that includes both Town A and Town B. They would hold a meeting where people from both towns can talk about it. The planning area can't split Town A or Town B in half—it has to include the whole town.
