§ 57461 District Debt Obligation Transfer

• •If a special district (like a water or power district) is shut down, any money it owes (like bonds or contracts) doesn’t just disappear.
• •The new group in charge (like a city or county) has to take over and pay those bills, just like the old district would have.
• •They can also go to court if there’s a fight over the money, just like the old district could.

A small town has a special water district that builds pipes and wells. The town decides to shut down the water district and let the county take over. But the water district still owes money for a big loan it took to fix the pipes.

Even though the water district is gone, the county now has to pay back that loan. If someone sues because the loan isn’t paid, the county has to deal with it, just like the water district would have.
