§ 57118 Voter Confirmation Election Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city or area wants to change (like merge, split, or form a new city), the people who live there get to vote on it.
  • •The vote happens in the area that’s changing, so the people affected have a say.
  • •Sometimes, the whole city or district votes, not just the part that’s changing.
  • •If people sign a petition asking for a vote, the vote must happen in that area.

Example

A small town wants to become part of a bigger nearby city.

The people in the small town and the people in the bigger city get to vote on whether this should happen. The vote makes sure everyone affected has a say.
