§ 54425 Bond Revenue Surplus Use

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city or town borrows money by selling bonds, they must pay back the money they borrowed plus interest on time.
  • •They also have to use some of the money they make from the project to keep it running and in good shape.
  • •If there's extra money left after paying back the loan and keeping the project running, they can use it for other things the city or town needs.

Example

A city builds a new parking garage using money from bonds.

The city must pay back the money they borrowed and keep the garage clean and safe. If there's extra money from parking fees after paying back the loan and maintenance costs, they can use it to fix potholes or build a new park.
