§ 53261 Employee Settlement Health Benefits

Key Takeaways

  • •If you get a cash settlement from work, it usually doesn’t include extra stuff like gifts or perks—just money.
  • •The only extra thing you might keep is health insurance, but only for a short time.
  • •You can keep the health insurance until either the time limit runs out or you get a new job, whichever happens first.

Example

You get hurt at work and your boss gives you a cash settlement to leave.

The money you get won’t include things like a free car or bonus gifts. The only extra you might keep is your health insurance, but only until you find a new job or the time limit (set by the law) ends.
