§ 53210 County Volunteer Benefit Coverage

Key Takeaways

  • •Counties can pay for health or accident insurance for volunteers who work for them without getting paid.
  • •The county can choose to pay all or part of the insurance costs.
  • •If the insurance company gives money back (like a refund), it goes to the county, not the volunteer.

Example

A person volunteers at a county animal shelter, helping with the dogs and cleaning cages.

The county can decide to pay for the volunteer's health insurance in case they get hurt while working. If the insurance company sends back any extra money, the county keeps it.
