  • •This law defines who can check the money and rules for groups that get federal money.
  • •Only certain auditors can do the checks: either government auditors who follow federal rules or licensed accountants in California.
  • •The groups that get checked include cities, counties, and other organizations that receive federal money.
  • •The checks must follow strict federal rules to make sure the money is used correctly.

Example

A city gets money from the federal government to fix roads.

The city must have its money and spending checked by either a government auditor who follows federal rules or a licensed accountant in California. This check makes sure the city is using the road money the right way.
