§ 51237 Agricultural Preserve Map Filing

Key Takeaways

  • •When a city or county creates a special area to protect farms (called an 'agricultural preserve'), they must make a map of it.
  • •They also have to keep a copy of the rules they made for this farm area.
  • •The map and rules must be given to the county recorder’s office and updated if anything changes.
  • •This helps everyone know where the farm area is and what the rules are.

Example

A town decides to protect a big area of farms so houses aren’t built there.

The town must draw a map showing exactly where the farm area is and write down the rules for it. Then, they have to give the map and rules to the county recorder’s office. If the town later changes the rules or the size of the farm area, they must update the map and rules at the recorder’s office too.
