§ 50927 Firefighter Benefit Exclusions

Key Takeaways

  • •If a firefighter gets hurt while working a side job (not their main firefighting job), they might not get special benefits.
  • •If a firefighter gets hurt doing something their department says they shouldn’t do, they might not get special benefits.
  • •The rules about what firefighters can’t do can change later, and those new rules still count.

Example

A firefighter works part-time as a construction worker on their day off and gets hurt on that job.

Since the firefighter was getting paid by someone other than their fire department when they got hurt, they might not get extra benefits from the fire department.
