§ 45306 City Retirement System Adoption

Key Takeaways

  • •A city can start a retirement plan if most voters say yes or if two-thirds of the city leaders agree.
  • •Once the retirement plan is in place, only the voters can cancel it—not just the city leaders.

Example

A city wants to create a retirement plan for its workers.

The city can do this if most people vote for it or if two-thirds of the city council agrees. But if they want to stop the plan later, they have to ask the voters again.
