§ 39502 Property Maintenance Liens

Key Takeaways

  • •The city can make you clean up weeds, grass, or trash from your sidewalk or property.
  • •If you don’t clean it up, the city can do it and charge you for it.
  • •If you don’t pay, the city can put a lien on your property (like a forced debt).
  • •The city can even sell your property to get the money back if you refuse to pay.

Example

Your front yard is full of tall weeds and trash, and your neighbor complains.

The city can tell you to clean it up. If you don’t, they’ll clean it and send you the bill. If you ignore the bill, they can take your property to get paid.
