§ 38502 Park Land Abandonment Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •If a park was bought using money from special bonds, the city can't just sell or close it without asking the people first.
  • •The city must ask voters at the next regular election or call a special vote to decide if the park can be sold or closed.
  • •This rule makes sure people who live in the city get to say what happens to parks paid for with their money.

Example

Imagine your town has a big park paid for with special money from bonds. The city wants to sell part of the park to build a mall.

The city can't just sell the park land. They have to ask everyone in the city to vote on it first. If most people vote 'yes,' then they can sell it. If not, the park stays.
