§ 37426 Local Property Sale Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •If the government wants to sell a property, they need a big vote to do it.
  • •If they don't get enough votes (four-fifths), they can't try to sell it again for six months.
  • •Unless they ask the people first by having a special vote (election).

Example

Imagine your town wants to sell a park to build a mall.

The town leaders vote on it. If 8 out of 10 don't agree, they can't try to sell the park for six months. Unless they ask all the townspeople to vote on it first.
