§ 34874 District Boundary Amendment Review

Key Takeaways

  • •Before changing the lines of voting areas in a city, the plan must be checked by the city's planning group or the city leaders if there's no planning group.
  • •The plan must make sure the new lines are clear and not confusing.
  • •The new lines must follow the rules in Section 21130 of the Elections Code.

Example

A city wants to change the borders of its voting districts because the population has grown.

The city must first send the new map to its planning group to check if the lines are clear. If the city doesn’t have a planning group, the city leaders will check it instead. They also have to make sure the new lines follow the rules in the Elections Code.
