§ 34004 Municipal Duty Reassignment Authority

• •If a state law says a city worker must do a job, the city can decide to give that job to another city worker who does similar work.
• •The city must write a rule (called an ordinance) to change who does the job.
• •The city must send a copy of this new rule to the state office that handles that kind of work.

A state law says the city's health inspector must check restaurants every month.

The city can pass a rule saying the fire inspector will do the restaurant checks instead, as long as the fire inspector already does similar safety checks. Then, the city must send a copy of this new rule to the state health department.
