§ 3031 Senate Impeachment Oath Requirement

• •Before the Senate can decide on an impeachment, everyone must take an oath to be fair and honest.
• •The secretary gives the oath to the President of the Senate first.
• •Then, the President of the Senate gives the oath to all the other senators who are there.
• •If a senator doesn't take the oath, they can't vote or do anything about the impeachment.

Imagine your school is deciding if a teacher should be fired for doing something really bad. Before the principal and other teachers can vote, they all have to promise to be fair and listen to everything carefully.

Just like in school, the senators have to promise to be fair before they can vote on whether someone should be impeached.
