§ 29823 Warrant Registration For Unpaid Funds

Key Takeaways

  • •If the government doesn't have enough money to pay a bill (called a warrant), the treasurer writes down some important info on the back of it.
  • •The treasurer notes the date they got the bill, says there's no money to pay it, and mentions that the bill will earn interest until it's paid.
  • •The bill is sent back to the person who issued it so they can handle it later.

Example

Imagine your school owes money to a company for new computers, but the school doesn't have enough money in its bank account to pay the bill right now.

The school's treasurer would write on the bill the date they got it, say there's no money to pay it, and note that the company will get extra money (interest) for the time they have to wait. Then, the bill goes back to the school's office to deal with later.
