§ 29610 County Officer Travel Expenses

Key Takeaways

  • •Elected county officers can go to their yearly work meetings without asking for permission first. The county will pay for their travel and stay.
  • •Other county workers (not elected) must ask the board of supervisors first if they want the county to pay for their travel to meetings.
  • •The county pays for these trips, but only if the rules are followed.

Example

The county sheriff (who is elected) wants to go to a big meeting for sheriffs in another city.

The sheriff can just go—they don’t need to ask the county board first. The county will pay for their hotel and gas. But if a regular police officer (not elected) wants to go to a work meeting, they must ask the board first, or the county won’t pay.
