§ 29127 Emergency Expenditure Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can spend money fast in emergencies like fires, floods, or big accidents.
  • •They need at least 4/5 of the board to agree it's an emergency first.
  • •They can fix broken public stuff, help sick people, or pay for damages after a disaster.
  • •This is only for real emergencies, not normal spending.

Example

A big storm knocks out the town's water pipes, and people have no clean water.

The board can vote (with 4/5 agreeing) to spend money right away to fix the pipes instead of waiting for the next budget meeting.
