§ 27466 Coroner'S Unclaimed Property Transfer

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone dies and no family or friend claims their money or stuff within 90 days, the coroner gives it to the treasurer.
  • •The coroner must write down how much money there is and what happened to any items found on the person who died.
  • •This only happens if no one asks for the money or stuff within 90 days.

Example

A person passes away, and the coroner finds $500 and a watch on them. No family member claims the money or watch for 90 days.

The coroner will give the $500 and the money from selling the watch to the treasurer. The coroner also writes a note saying how much money there was and what happened to the watch.
