§ 27305 County Recorder Ssn Truncation Reports

Key Takeaways

  • •County recorders in California must report their progress on hiding parts of Social Security numbers in records every year.
  • •The report goes to lawmakers and the Office of Privacy Protection.
  • •Once all counties finish hiding Social Security numbers, they don’t have to send reports anymore.

Example

Your county recorder’s office has old documents with full Social Security numbers on them.

The office must send a yearly update to the state showing how much progress they’ve made in covering up parts of those numbers to keep them safe. Once all counties finish this, they stop sending updates.
