§ 23690 County Seat Relocation Rules

• •If a county's main town (county seat) has been moved before, it can be moved again.
• •To move it again, people must ask for a vote by signing a petition.
• •At least three-fourths of the people who voted in the last big election must sign the petition.

Imagine your county's main town was moved from Town A to Town B many years ago. Now, some people want to move it again to Town C.

They can't just decide to move it. They need to get a lot of people to sign a paper asking for a vote. If 10,000 people voted in the last big election, they need at least 7,500 signatures to even have a vote about moving the main town.
