§ 23574 Special District Territory Protection

Key Takeaways

  • •Special districts (like water or fire departments) in a county can't be split up or changed just because the county merges with another.
  • •If the county merges, these special districts stay the same unless there's a new law or process after the merge.
  • •The county supervisors (the bosses) still control these special districts even after the county merges.

Example

Imagine your town's fire department is run by the county. If your county merges with another county, the fire department can't be split up or changed just because of the merge.

The fire department stays the same and is still run by the county bosses unless they decide to change it later with a new plan.
