§ 23501 County Consolidation Definitions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines special words used in this part of the law.
  • •An 'affected county' is a county that might join with others or has already joined.
  • •The 'principal county' is the one with the most valuable stuff (like houses and land) in it.
  • •The 'clerk' is the person who helps with official papers, and if there’s a different person for elections, that person handles election stuff.

Example

Imagine two counties, County A and County B, want to become one big county.

County A has more expensive houses and land, so it’s the 'principal county.' Both counties are 'affected counties' because they’re joining together. The 'clerk' in County A will handle the official papers, and if there’s a separate election person, they’ll take care of any voting or petitions.
