§ 23380 District Funds Transfer Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a new county is being created and it splits up a road, school, or other district, the old county must share the leftover money fairly.
  • •The old county's leaders must officially decide how much money to give to the new county based on what’s fair.
  • •The money must be sent to the new county’s treasurer so the split-up district can keep working properly.

Example

Imagine a small town’s school district gets split because a new county is formed. The old county had $100,000 left in the school fund, and half the schools are now in the new county.

The old county’s leaders must vote to send $50,000 (half the money) to the new county so the schools there have enough money to run.
