§ 23306 County Creation Population Requirements

• •You can't create a new county if it leaves an old county with fewer than 20,000 people.
• •You can't create a new county if the new county has fewer than 10,000 people.
• •You can't create a new county if it leaves an old county with less than 1,200 square miles of land.

A group of people want to split a big county into two smaller ones.

If the new county would have only 8,000 people, it can't be created because it needs at least 10,000 people. Also, if the old county would be left with only 15,000 people, that's not allowed either because it needs at least 20,000 people.
