§ 23258 County Boundary Change Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't change county lines if it leaves a skinny strip of land less than 200 feet wide and over 300 feet long.
  • •You can't change county lines if it leaves just a highway or part of it in a weird spot.
  • •You can't change county lines if it splits up a city.

Example

Imagine a town wants to move its border to include a new shopping mall.

If moving the border would leave a tiny strip of land that's super skinny or just a highway by itself, or if it cuts a city in half, the law says they can't do it.
