§ 23209 Boundary Change Protest Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If more than half of the people living in an area don't want a boundary change, it gets canceled.
  • •If more than half of the landowners in an empty area (who also own more than half the land value) protest, the change is stopped.
  • •If the leaders of any affected county protest, the boundary change won’t happen.

Example

A small town wants to move its border to include a nearby neighborhood. The neighborhood has 100 voters.

If 51 or more of those 100 voters write a protest before the final meeting, the border change is canceled.
