§ 23202 County Boundary Change Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •County lines can't be moved more than 5 miles from where they started.
  • •Moving the line can't make a county lose more than 5% of its land.
  • •Moving the line can't make a county lose more than 5% of its people.

Example

Imagine two counties, County A and County B, want to change their border.

If moving the border would make County A lose 6% of its land or people, the change isn't allowed. The border can only be moved if it doesn't cause big losses like this.
