§ 22870 Employee Health Benefit Contributions

Key Takeaways

  • •Both the state and its workers (or retired workers) pay part of the cost for their health insurance.
  • •If more than one retired worker is getting money as a survivor of the same person, the state only pays one share for all of them.
  • •The worker or retired worker pays whatever is left after the state pays its part.
  • •The state starts paying its part as soon as the worker or retired worker signs up for the health plan.

Example

A retired state worker and their spouse both get health insurance from the state because the worker passed away.

The state will only pay one share for both of them, and the rest of the cost is split between them. They start getting this help as soon as they sign up.
